The recent film release from the cinematic legend that is Steven Spielberg. A film that has garnered a lot of publicity and critical acclaim. I have not seen it yet. I have been desperate to see the West End stage production before the film. And through the extreme generosity of owners Dan and Adam Wain (George Baker, Petite Georgia), we headed to London last night to take our seats in the stalls......
A brilliant production. By now, I am sure that most of you are familiar with the puppetry that brings the horses to life on stage. Remarkable. And well researched. Obviously. The movement and nuances of the horses captured perfectly. For those who have not been, I could not recommend it more highly....
Patrick beginning to move with more freedom. A step or two in the right direction of his recuperation. Theatre seating not ideal for a broken ankle. But a week or two ago, he would not have been able to make the trip. Physiotherapy and plenty of swimming in the weeks ahead. And a trip to Dubai at the end of February that will do no harm. Broken bones more likely to heal in the Dubai sun than through the dog days of February.....
1st February today. An uninspiring month. With very little going for it. When (if..) I grow up, February will be spent somewhere else. The only upside being that we can now say that "Cheltenham is next month". Where do the years go??. It seems like only yesterday that we bade farewell to Clancy at the end of the Festival as he headed off to catch his flight back to the States. He will be with us again in a few short weeks......
A Festival with a difference for us this year. Candida riding. A fall in the yard recently straining a shoulder muscle or two, but very much on track for the big day. What to ride ?? A few options. Which are being "test driven" by their prospective pilot on a daily basis......
Transfer deadline day yesterday. It has been a while since QPR grabbed the headlines on this slightly contrived day of footballing Monopoly. Bobby Zamora and Gabriel Cisse on their way to Loftus Road. Backing up Mark Hughes' statement of intent when he took over from Neil Warnock. Survival an absolute "must" for Rangers. And at least the wallet has been opened.....
And results last night yet again underlining Manchester United's resilience. By common consent, Manchester City have played the best football by far this season. United riven by injury. A depleted squad. But remarkably this morning the two Manchester clubs sit level on points, separated only by City's superior goal difference. City with a supposedly easy few games coming up. United with tougher fixtures in the immediate future. But very much "Game On". Sir Alex in the role of stalker, ratcheting the pressure up at every turn. Tottenham not completely out of the mix - if Defoe had scored against City, or Balotelli had been sent off, things would be a whole lot tighter at the top. Plenty to play for.....
No runners today. Thoughts turned towards Dubai again. elgian Bill fine after his run last week. Humidor set to go again on Friday, Mr Dettori up. These sprints hugely competitive, and requiring so much luck in running....
