So far, I have had 27 cards, 5 bunches of red roses, a convertible lamborghini and a pot of beluga caviar. I always thought that these contrived "Days" were no more than rampant commercialism. Not any more......
The gallops usable yesterday morning. Just. A thin crust of frost beneath the woodchip surface. Nothing dramatic. And much the best "machine" to break this up is a cantering racehorse rather than a tractor and harrow. The harrow tending to bounce along the surface, whilst a string of horses "lobbing" around the gallop get much deeper into the woodchip.....
A milder week forecast. A frost again last night. But it does not look to have been a hard one. Keen to work a few of the jumpers this morning. Hopeful that we can do so....
The children home from school for Half Term. Barney at football coaching for the first three mornings of this week. Tallulah and I heading off early yesterday afternoon to pick him up. And not getting home for another 6 hours. Which was not exactly the plan. We took in Salisbury Cathedral. Which is magnificent. And Burger King. Which was less magnificent. And "Hotel Chocolat". Which we could have spent hours in. And then "War Horse", the movie. Very different to the theatre production. No surprise there. But still thoroughly enjoyable. In a Spielberg way....
"Joey" having a touch of the Belgian Bill's about him....
A runner today. Which is a rarity. Sergeant Troy heading up to Southwell. He has disappointed me very much, and we are getting near the last chance saloon with him. Cheekpieces and a tongue tie today. Which will hopefully spark him into life....
And it looks as if Belgian Bill will run again in Meydan on Thursday. Not a race that was initially on the radar, but Valerie reports him to be in great form. Back on turf after his "flat" effort on the tapeta. We all hope, obviously, that he can bounce back on the turf track....
ENGLAND WIN A CRICKET MATCH !! A fine start to the One Day series against Pakistan. I have to admit that I thought that Messrs Hafeez, Ajmal, Afridi, Gul et al would have our batsmen prodding aimlessly around in search of the elusive cricket ball. Alastair Cook with an imperious 137. He is class. Bopara looking good. I have never been a fan, but technically he looked very sound yesterday. Certainly compared to poor Eion Morgan whose head seems a little frazzled at present......
