The July Cup. Always a fantastic spectacle. Won by some greats (and, as ever with the big races, some "non-greats" as well...). I love being on the July Course but sadly I will not be there this afternoon.
No runners. Anywhere. Although not strictly true. Barney has an each-way squeak in the sprint, whilst Tallulah, provided she remembers to run all the way to the line and does not wander off a true line to chat to her mates, looks a "good thing" in her division. In fact, I think she is the biggest certainty to line up at the start line since Guga (?!) at Southwell last Tuesday night.....
I mentioned this to H.Findlay over lunch at Tattersalls yesterday (excellent ham) and I have been scouring Betfair ever since for a bit of Evens. Sadly no joy. Unless there is a parent on the sidelines running a book, T may have to be "not off" today. Whatever that means..........????
A successful foray to Tatts. And a fine addition to the team delivered to Patrick and Valerie's stables last night for a few days "quarantine". We are fantastically lucky to have this facility so close by. Nothing, whether it has come from The Queen (as if....) or from the smartest stables in the land, comes straight here. Horses can pick up all sorts of bugs at the sales - and so a few days of a "watching brief" at Ballabeg Stables ensures that we do not bring any "nasties" into our yard full of horses in full work.
Lunch taken with H yesterday with England in a strong position. Dinner taken around the kitchen table last night with C, B and T with England in a precarious position. Cricket, eh???? Swings and roundabouts. Peaks and troughs. Foie gras and spam (?). Nothing that a quick five for not a lot from Freddie won't sort out....
Could be praying for a Welsh monsoon or two over the weekend.......
