Patrick and Valerie leading the raiding party to Yarmouth yesterday, C and I watching from afar as we had to be in Birmingham last night....
Something very surreal about watching one of our horses win on television. I hate missing runners - I hate missing winners more. But very pleased to have trained another horse to win in the famous Susan Roy colours. Angie Sykes very cleverly bought Vested Interest cheaply out of Tattersalls Book 1 last Autumn - and yesterday he fetched 17,500 Guineas at the post-race auction. I may have presided over the downfall of Barings, but even my limited business acumen suggests to me that we have done a pretty good job with this one....!!
We are very lucky to be on the list of Paul and Susan Roy's Trainers - albeit low in the pecking order behind Messrs Noseda, Meehan and Dunlop - and it would be great to train them something loftier than a selling winner one day.
Vested Interest backed from 12's into 11/2 - but not a bean of stable money. We fancied him at Southwell on debut, but that was a poor run and to be completely frank we had only seen modest improvement since then. It seems, though, that once one of our horses gets clipped a couple of points, the price goes into freefall. Well done to those who were on - cleverly my bet of the day was the tailed off Inconspicuous Miss in the next !!?? This run was all wrong - and she will prove that point soon....
C and I to Birmingham last night for the Press night of "We Will Rock You" at The Hippodrome. A fine invitation from the venue's Chairman and Owner of ours Sir John Crabtree (without doubt the busiest man I know), the highlight of the night being a guitar solo from the Queen legend Brian May (yes - THE Brian May). The script writer Ben Elton appearing on stage at the end to inform us that Queen are not normally part of the show - a shame (!!), but definitely worth seeing if you have not already caught it in London....
