Oh my God - here we go again.......
The Ashes. Nobody could imagine that this Summer's series could possibly match the drama and high tension of four years ago. But yesterday's drawn Test Match at Cardiff laid down a pretty solid pointer to the weeks ahead.
I was playing (poorly) for The Hottentots at our home ground, Ascott House, and thankfully our debacle of a performance came to a sorry end in time for us all to be able to listen to the final overs at Cardiff. Twenty plus people crowded around my car, Barney atop the roof, Aggers and Vic Marks talking us through (at times they were pretty confused and confusing....) the last rites. Not many sports can compel people to crowd around a radio commentary in this manner.
Heading to Lords on Thursday all square. The Aussies sure to be gutted not to have closed in for the kill, England's great escape feeling like a victory, not a desperate last ditch draw.....
A bit of rain over the weekend, primarily through Saturday night, but we must be nearly in danger of almost having had a Summer. For us today, a return to a Winter venue of "choice", downtown Dunstall for the 9.20 with Iguacu. Derek and Cheryl Holder's tough little horse a winner last time out. The 9.20 in July - a bit more alluring than the 9.20 in January which is our usual spot....
